Choiseul Art Gallery consists of four departments:
- Paintings – oil, watercolour, Acrylic: fine art prints, greetings cards (Hattie’s Cards).
- Local Souvenirs.
- Local palm crafts unique to Choiseul; pottery – traditional and modern.
- Carvings.
Choiseul Art Gallery is located in the Fishing Village of River Doree. The Gallery is approximately one mile from Kaï Papaï. It opens from Tuesday to Saturday – 10.00 a m to 4.00 p m. It is closed from August to September.
The Owners, Leo and Hattie Barnard make the majority of the souvenirs in the gallery itself. They make crafts and jewellery using only local materials, such as, coconut, calabash, stones, seeds and recycled paper, etc.
Hattie Barnard paints in her studio which is also in the gallery, so you will find not only prints of her artwork, but also her fine art paintings in oil, watercolour, acrylic, and drawings. She also designs the Hattie’s cards range of greetings cards. Her book “The Village by the Sea” is on sale in the gallery. Hattie’s next book is an artistic exploration of the St Lucian landscape in all its glory, with 53 original paintings in oil and watercolour. The artwork is brought to life with anecdotes, stories, travelogues and information about St Lucia and the local way of life.
During your visit to Choiseul Art Gallery you will find local carvings, traditional and modern St. Lucian pottery, and a variety of local palm crafts (table mats, baskets, etc,.).
