Anse L’Ivrogne beach is one of the last beautifully preserved coves of St Lucia. It is also one of the departure point of the Gros Piton hiking trail.
The beach is located about one hour and a half walk from the town of Choiseul. From there, follow the road along the coast, pass Sabwisha, go through the community of Morne Sion and then through that of La Pointe.
Hike Gros Piton through Anse L’Ivrogne
On the main road, ask the bus to stop at La Pointe and hike down to Anse L’Ivrogne.
If the bus doesn’t go to La Pointe, stop in Choiseul village where you can catch another bus to La Pointe.
Hike Gros Piton then go to Anse L’Ivrogne
Take a Soufriere bus and ask to stop at Victoria. From there, hike down to Fond Gens Libres, where you will find the Gros Piton Trail. During the hike, ask your guide for the trail going down towards Anse L’Irogne.
As the beach lays at the base of Gros Piton, surrounded by lush vegetation, you probably wouldn’t see it from the road. To find it, you would have to stop at Maurelle’s inn, just before the road moves away from the coast and goes right uphill. From Maurelle’s, walk down a path that will take you along the course of L’Ivrogne River and across it to one of the last beautifully preserved beaches of the island.
The beach is about 20-30 mins walk on an off-road track that winds down the side of the hill through lush vegetation.
The local people that cultivate the area just before the beach will appreciate your assistance in keeping it as it is. After walking through a plantation of pineapples, coconut trees, five fingers, yams and other local delicacies, you should start feeling the soft sea sand under your feet. You’ll now only have to walk across the pebbles bordering the large cove of Anse L’Ivrogne to be rewarded with a cool refreshing bath or the chance to explore local sealife through the clear water of one of the nicest snorkeling spots in the South of Saint Lucia.
The coconut trees along the shore also provide ample shade for those who prefer to stay cool whilst at the beach.
From the shore, the view opens wide onto blue skies, adorned with oddly shaped clouds, along with a close up view of the Gros Piton.
